Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after one season
The Cowboys have fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after one season with the team.
Dallas hired Eberflus shortly after he was fired from his position as the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
In one season under Eberflus, the Cowboys ranked dead last in the NFL in points allowed and 30th in the NFL in yards allowed per game. Dallas was the only team this past regular season to allow over thirty points per game to opponents.
As the team prepares to search for a new defensive coordinator, it will mark the team's fourth coach to hold the position in four seasons. Dan Quinn held the position in 2023 before leaving to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders. Mike Zimmer preceded Eberflus during Mike McCarthy's final season as the team's head coach.
This most recent campaign marks the third consecutive season in which the Cowboys defense ranked among the five worst teams in the league in yards allowed.
