When the U.S. Supreme Court announced on Monday that justices would hear a case that challenged the controversial "Migrant Protection Protocols" program, migrants stuck in squalid tent camps in Matamoros finally had some good news.

Under the program, people who request asylum in the United States after traveling through Mexico are sent back to Mexico, where they wait for a decision. Many are stuck in camps near the Rio Grande without jobs, housing or clean water.

Any decision, though, will take months. The Supreme Court will hear the case next year. Justices may not announce their decision for six months after oral arguments.
