EDINBURG – A new name for a local animal shelter.

The Palm Valley Animal Center is changing its name to Palm Valley Animal Society.

The name change is to symbolize its effort to become a no-kill shelter.

Over the summer, staff was increased, new equipment and better supplies were brought in.

The goal is to save at least 90% of the animals brought into the shelter. Officials are hopeful they will reach that number by next year.

“Hopefully by early next year, by early 2020 we will be if not hitting that, we will be really, really close. We are already incredibly close. So it's just all about sustaining that momentum that we built up over the last couple of years,” said Luis Quintanilla, the shelter’s manager.

From January to August of this year, Palm Valley’s ratio for saving animals was seven out of 10 probability rate.
