A colorful addition to the city of Edinburg went up on Monday as the city invited residents to take part in painting a new mural.

The mural, located on the Gateway Building at 315 S. Closner Blvd. in downtown Edinburg, was designed by artist Mauricio Ramirez.

The mural, titled “Edinburg, There Is No Place Like Home,” features several segments highlighting different parts of the city’s identity.

“I think the work and allowing people to come and paint gives them a better insight of how murals get made,” Ramirez said, adding that the interactive experience allows the mural to have shared ownership with the community.

“As artists, it's our responsibility to research the area, and ultimately get the community’s feedback," Ramirez said. 

The city of Edinburg plans to install more murals throughout the city, a news release stated.
