Close to 400 dogs and cats call the RGV Humane Society in Mission home.

“Saving pets by getting them back into their homes, trying to get as many pets out of the shelter is what we are trying to do,” RGV Humane Society Community Outreach Coordinator Donovun Hinojosa said.

The nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter runs on donations and volunteers.

“We want to save as many lives as possible, but we can't do that without the support of our community,” Hinojosa said.

It’s why on Giving Tuesday, the shelter set a goal of raising $3,000. Hinojosa said donations year round are vital.

“This money will go towards providing any medical care, shelter, and of course, food," Hinojosa said.

Those unable to donate money can donate time by volunteering at the shelter, or opening their home to fostering or adopting an animal.

More information on how to help the RGV Humane Society is available on their website.
