State police say they’ve seen an increase in criminal activity on the border.

During Thursday’s weekly Operation Lone Star briefing, officials said the flow of drugs and people crossing the border illegally remains steady.

Video out of Starr County shows groups of armed men in body armor across the river on Tuesday.

"That is something that in my years of experience is fairly new to be so obvious and overt about their operation,” DPS South Texas Regional Director Victor Escalon said. “That's of interest you know. What are they going to do?"

Officials said the increase seen could be an attempt to intimidate law enforcement on the border or rival groups fighting amongst themselves.
