The body of a 59-year-old man was pulled from a canal in San Juan hours after a man reportedly fell into it, according to San Juan Police Chief Leandro Sifuentes Jr.

According to Sifuentes, crews responded to the canal north of the 600 block of East El Dora Road Tuesday shortly before 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a witness seeing a male fall into the canal.

The body of the unidentified man was pulled from the canal at around 8 p.m.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident appears to have been an accidental fall,” Sifuentes said, adding that officers are working to identify and notify the deceased’s next of kin.
