Brownsville ISD is using new video technology to help football coaches review plays and make real-time adjustments during games.

Channel 5 News visited Hanna Early College High School to check out the new system. The entire Brownsville ISD football program is now using it.

The technology is called ANSRS. It records games and uploads footage to a laptop, letting coaches break down plays faster.

Staff members in the press box use headsets to talk to coaches about what they see on the video system. That lets coaches make adjustments on the fly.

"As far as saving time, what we used to do in the past was record three different angles, come back to the school, upload those three angles, match all three angles together, and then tag all the data," Hanna Early College High School Football Defensive Coordinator Mike Chavez said.

Chavez said the press box staff answers coaches' questions by watching the replay in real time.

"They are answering our questions. They are looking at the film or the replay, and they are telling us what we need to know," Chavez said. "We can show the kids, and we have a presentation ready for the kids during halftime, and that's when they can see it."

Hanna Early College High School quarterback Eli Renteria said the system gives him a better perspective on the field.

"It really benefits us as a team knowing that we get our feedback right away. If we are doing something wrong, if I am making the wrong reads or who I am looking at, I know I will get the answer real quick, but yeah, that helps us a lot," Renteria said.

Renteria also encouraged future players to keep working hard regardless of the new technology.

"For the next Hanna quarterback, you gotta start by training hard every day. Most of the time, I am on YouTube just looking at different coverages," Renteria said.
