The UTRGV Vaqueros women's basketball team took down Eastern Michigan 73-66 in overtime on Thursday night.

The Vaqueros trailed by seven entering the fourth quarter, but a strong defensive effort powered to the comeback.

Tierra Trotter nailed the game-tying layup with 1.2 second left to send things to overtime.

In overtime, the Vaqueros dominated by outscoring Eastern Michigan 14-7 in route to the win.

The Vaqueros held Eastern Michigan to just 26.1% shooting from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime, helping lead the way to victory.

"It was a crazy game because we really didn't shoot the ball very well," UTRGV women's basketball head coach Lane Lord said after the game. "We played great defense all night long, we won the rebounding war, had less turnovers and assists which we've been trying to work on, and we just kind of gutted this one out, it was really just a team win overall."

The Vaqueros will finish out the Holiday Classic by playing against Kansas City tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
