Road improvement project underway in Roma
Marco Garcia has lived near Obregon Avenue and U.S. Highway 83 in Roma for 40 years.
Garcia says every time it rains, the road gets damaged and riddled with potholes.
Crews are removing the current asphalt in that area and installing a new base with coal on top.
Roma City Manager Alejandro Barrera told Channel 5 News the city is also working on drainage projects for the area, and the project will take time.
“It's a short to midterm solution while we work on a longer term solution and do actual paving of the entire street,” Barrera said.
Barrera also noted that at the intersection, U.S. Highway 83 is higher than Obregon Avenue.
“At that time, I guess there was no design to properly get rid of storm water,” Barrera said.
The project is costing nearly $5,000 and should be completed within the next two weeks.
