The Texas Water Development Board approved providing over $4.8 million to the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation in Cameron County, according to a news release.

The money is from the organization’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund Emerging Contaminants Program, the news release stated.

With the money, the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation will plan, design, and construct a project to address "emerging contaminants.”

“With the assistance approved today, the Corporation will install impermeable disposal basin liners at the disposal site for the Martha Ann Simpson and Nelson Road water treatment plants,” the news release stated. “The impermeable liners will prevent the infiltration of emerging contaminants into the local groundwater and nearby water bodies.”
