Chemical release occurs on Texas Blvd in Weslaco, residents urged to use caution in area
The Weslaco Fire Department has announced that a chemical release has occurred at 2500 North Texas Boulevard on Friday.
Wesalco Assistant City Manager said the chemical leak occurred at the old water plant on Sugarcane Drive and Texas Boulevard. He said the leak is under control and there is no public health threat.
The fire department said exposure to the chemical release may cause difficulty breathing, loss of coordination, burning sensation in the eyes, nose, throat, lungs and cause nausea.
Officials are asking anyone in the area to stay indoors until further notice and to avoid the area.
