EDINBURG – A damaged gas meter is making a life difficult for one Rio Grande Valley woman.

Edinburg resident, Yolanda Nino, says the meter was immediately shut off, leaving her with no hot water.

She says her calls for help have gone unanswered.

Every day presents its own challenges, Nino says.

“No hot water, there’s nothing. I have a gas dryer, I can do nothing,” she says.

Nino lives without gas, something she says she really took for granted.

“I need it. I really, really, really – let me tell you, I need the gas,” she tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS.

She says her meter was damaged when it was hit by one of her neighbors last month.

“The fire department, the police department, the gas company, everyone was here and I was not here,” she explains.

Ever since then, gas has been shut off while she waits for crews to come and repair it. She says this means no hot water or dryer, leaving her to dry clothes outside.

Even Nino’s stove uses gas which means she can’t cook or boil water. She says if she wants a warm meal, she has to go out to eat.

“I can’t afford [it], too much money,” she says.

The 75-year-old says she can’t keep living like this.

She says after calling her gas company weeks ago, a crew was sent out to assess the issue but have yet to fix it.

Nino says she will never take gas for granted ever again.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS contacted her gas company. The manager contacted Nino and sent a crew out to her home Wednesday afternoon. They say the gas is expected to be restored the same day.
