A lot of Rio Grande Valley residents were forced to leave their cars on the expressway or in flooded streets during last week's storm.

Typically, that usually leads to a lot of people replacing their vehicles. If you're buying used, make sure to check for signs of water damage.

"So any water damage is quite invasive," repair shop manager Ricardo Vento said.

That can include rust, watermarks, mud under the carpet and mold or a musty smell. You also may want to consider getting an inspection for water damage.

"If you have kids, if you have your loved ones driving in the car and for yourself, you're pretty valuable. An extra $200 or $300 is worth it. I would definitely, definitely do an inspection," Vento said.

Mechanics say water can also damage electrical wiring.
