A suspect has been apprehended following a lockdown at Rivera Early College High School on Tuesday.

The Brownsville Independent School District said law enforcement is onsite and students and staff are safe.

According to a Facebook post from Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, the Brownsville Police Department received calls regarding a threatening active shooting situation at the high school.

"I want to assure our residents that our officers responded immediately, handled the situation quickly and professionally, and were able to identify and arrest the individual involved before the situation could escalate," Cowen said. "Most importantly, everyone is safe. No one was harmed, and no injuries were reported."
