With a cold front just days away, the Ozanam Shelter is nearing capacity due to more migrants coming in to get help.

Ozanam Center Executive Director Victor Maldonado said that Friday morning they had 180 people. That's just 20 away from their capacity.

While some are homeless people, a majority of them are migrants.

The Ozanam Center started seeing these high numbers at the start of December, before that they saw around 80 people a day.

Maldonado said when it comes to the migrants seeking shelter, there is a mix of families and single men and women.

The migrants are coming in legally through the CBP One app, and on average are staying around for five days to 10 days.

Maldonado said that they're used to handling these large numbers.

"It kinda caught us off guard, but we're always ready, we're always ready to be able to accommodate folks as much as we can. So that's what we're doing, as folks are needing our assistance, so we're here," Maldonado said.

An immigration attorney who handles asylum cases said he's also been seeing an increase in asylum cases, and he believes more people are coming to the border legally to cross over because of the new administration that will soon be taking over.
