Weslaco crews and pumps on standby as drainage monitored during rainy weather
Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — The city of Weslaco has been on high alert following recent storms.
A Channel 5 News crew got a look inside Weslaco's emergency operations center. No major flooding was reported overnight.
Public works crews have been split up across the city checking ditches, inlets and grates and clearing anything that could keep water from moving.
"We're seeing the water make its way in there, which it's supposed to," Emergency Management Coordinator Antonio Lopez said. "If that RDF was not there, that water would be in the streets and the neighborhoods."
The city also has pumps and barricades ready and fire crews are prepared for high-water calls if conditions change.
City leaders say crews will continue monitoring drainage through the weekend.
