The UTRGV athletics department hosted their annual "V awards". Honoring the strong play of their top athletes.

28 student athletes took awards during the ceremony.

Among those recognized, former UTRGV quarterback, Eddie Lee Marburger was awarded Male Student-Athlete of the year. Marburger helped lead UTRGV to a 9-3 record in the football team's inaugural season. The RGV native threw for 31 touchdowns and just shy of 3000 yards, helping set the foundation for this hometown team.

"Just a blessing man, what the valley means to me, and just to be able to have this award. This is obviously a team award, I mean I couldn't have done it with all the guys out on the field and for this to be my last ride, to go out this way, it's like a dream come true," said Marburger.

Track star Nayla Harris was Female Student-Athlete of the year.

Women's basketball forward, Charlotte O'Keefe was awarded the Female Athlete Legacy award, finishing her career as the All-Time program leader in blocks and rebounds.

"It means a lot, this has been my home the last 4 years, my fourth and final V awards so to take home this award, it means a lot to me," said O'Keefe.
