Former Hidalgo County district clerk held without bond in federal investigation
A judge has ordered former Hidalgo County District Clerk Omar Guerrero to be held in federal custody without bond pending his trial for possession of a controlled substance.
Guerrero was on the run for 13 years after he was arrested in May 2013 on the possession charge, and his bond was set at more than $1 million.

According to a federal indictment, he made bail on May 7, 2013, and later that same day, a felony warrant was issued on a charge of sexual assault of a minor. By then, Guerrero had fled to Mexico through the Harlingen port of entry.
Guerrero was arrested in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, on June 23, in connection with a 2013 investigation into the sexual assault of a child, as well as additional outstanding warrants, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
According to a news release, Guerrero was arrested after deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a child disclosing “an outcry of sexual assault” on April 26, 2013.
The victim reported that she left her workplace with a man later identified as Guerrero, who took her to a residence in the 6300 block of Western Road in rural Mission where the assault occurred.
“Sheriff’s investigators reviewed physical evidence and corroborating witness statements that show sufficient probable cause that Omar Guerrero sexually assaulted the victim. At the time of his arrest, he was also wanted on additional outstanding warrants unrelated to this case.”
A trial date for Guerrero's possession charge has not yet been scheduled, and he was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
