The only city park in Combes has had its restrooms vandalized again and the city is now working on repairs and new security measures.

The damage happened over the weekend at Combes Community Park. Walls were covered in red spray paint, a mirror was broken and stall doors were missing from the bathroom.

The city says this is the fifth time in a year the bathrooms have been vandalized. Repairs began 24 hours ago. Crews have reinstalled a bathroom stall door and boarded up the wall where the mirror was.

Maintenance Supervisor Tim David said the repairs will cost the city $1,000.

"These restrooms are vital for them; if not, then they have to pack up, and you know how kids are, they have to go all the time," Maintenance Supervisor Tim David said. "That means they have to leave and what are the chances that they are coming back?"

The city is also adding new security measures to prevent future vandalism.

"It is an ongoing thing and that is the reason why, we received some cameras and we are going to install cameras. Not in the restrooms but outside," David said.

Two motion-activated cameras will be placed at the park. The cameras and repairs are expected to be completed next week.

Combes resident Jose Nino visits the park every morning to play basketball, often with his cousins or nephews. He said seeing the damage was upsetting.

"It makes me real sad because I feel like, especially in the Valley, there are a lot of ways to express it artistically, and I feel like using public spaces like the restrooms, places where kids go. I feel like it's not the best way to express ourselves," Nino said.

Nino said he would not want his family members going into the restrooms in their current state.

"I would not want them going in there, especially seeing different things. I don't know what is in there totally, but I don't want them to see something inappropriate or words that I don't want them to see," Nino said. "This is the first time I heard anything too crazy like this happening, but I am hoping something like this does not happen in the future because this is a nice park and I like coming here in the morning."
