The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested a Brownsville man in connection with a deadly auto-pedestrian hit-and-run crash.

The crash happened Sunday at 12:02 a.m. on State Highway 4 west of FM 511 in Brownsville.

According to a DPS spokesperson, 24-year-old Eduardo Hernandez was driving westbound in his silver 2024 Jeep Wrangler when he struck the curb after crossing an intersection.

The spokesperson said a witness saw a man lying in the westbound lane as the Jeep kept driving. Hernandez did not stop to help. The pedestrian died at the scene.

DPS troopers found the Jeep and Hernandez a few hours later. Hernandez was taken to the Cameron County Jail and faces charges for failing to stop and provide aid after a crash involving a death.

DPS troopers are still investigating the crash.
