Prom season is almost here, and Weslaco ISD is accepting donations of dresses and suits to give to students who cannot afford an outfit.

According to the district, 100 prom dresses and suits were given to students last year. They are hoping to help even more teens this year.

“We know that a lot of people down here don't have the time or maybe the resources to go and find a nice prom dress,” Weslaco High School student council Vice President Nichole Villegas said. “So we wanted to have everyone in high school kind of get the experience of being able to go to prom but not having to worry about the cost and how expensive it can be sometimes.”

So far, 50 dresses have been donated, but the district is seeking more.

Evening gowns, suits, button-up shirts, shoes and accessories can be dropped off at Weslaco High School until Friday, Feb. 20.
