Valley school districts announce delays due to cold front in the forecast

School districts across the Rio Grande Valley are announcing changes to the school day ahead of a weekend cold front.

Below is a list of the school districts that announced delays and cancellations for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. This article will be updated as we learn more. Email any other school closures not listed to news@krgv.com.

Horizon Montessori Public Schools

Horizon Montessori Public Schools announced all their campuses in the Rio Grande Valley will have a start time of 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 and Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

CAMERON COUNTY

In a news release, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. said Harmony Schools and Marine Military Academy will have delayed start times on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. Contact the schools for details. 

Brownsville ISD

Brownsville ISD announced that on Monday, Jan. 26, all elementary classes will start at 10 a.m., all middle school classes will begin at 9:40 a.m., and high school classes will start at 10:45 a.m.

According to the announcement made on Thursday, morning bus routes will pick up students two hours later than their regularly scheduled time.

All staff will report to their campus at their regular start time.

All after-school activities scheduled for Monday will continue as planned, the district added.

Harlingen CISD

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District announced a 2-hour delay to their school start times for Monday, Jan. 26.

Elementary schools will begin at 9:40 a.m., middle schools will begin at 9:55 a.m. and high schools will begin at 10:15 a.m.

Buses will also run on a 2-hour delay and dismissal times will remain the same.

Los Fresnos CISD

Schools at Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District will have a 2-hour delay to their start times for Monday, Jan. 26.

Elementary schools will begin at 9:50 a.m., middle schools will begin at 10:20 a.m. and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bus pick up times will also be delayed by two hours. All staff will report at their regular scheduled hours.

Point Isabel ISD

The Point Isabel Independent School District announced a 2-hour or 4-hour delay to school start times for Monday, Jan. 26. Parents may choose to send their child to school at either start time.

To ensure all students have access to warm shelter and meals, all campuses and district facilities will open at 9:00 a.m.

Campus instructional start times are listed below:

- Derry Elementary School: 11:35 a.m.

- Garriga Elementary School: 11:50 a.m.

- Port Isabel Junior High School: 12:05 p.m.

- Port Isabel Early College High School: 12:10 p.m.

Bus transportation will be provided for both 2 and 4-hour delay. Bus routes will operate two pick-up times, each delayed from the normal schedule.

Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success

Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success announced that their Early Childhood Academy at Leonel Castillo Community Center will have a late arrival at noon on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. 

Rio Hondo ISD

The Rio Hondo Independent School District announced all district offices and campuses will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 27 with a delayed start time for all campuses.

Staff will report to campus at 9:30 a.m. and students will report at 10 a.m. Bus routes will also be delayed by two hours.

The district said for safety and supervision, students may not be dropped at campus before 9:30 a.m.

San Benito CISD

All San Benito Consolidated Independent School Districts will have a delayed start on Monday, Jan. 26.

Elementary schools will begin at 9 a.m., middle schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. and high schools will begin at 10 a.m.

Bus pick-ups will also have a 2-hour delay.

Staff will report at their usual time and will be available for early drop off.

Students will be allowed to wear coats, sweatshirts, suitable pajamas, flannel sets, small blankets, throws, beanies, ski caps and scarves.

Santa Maria ISD

The Santa Maria Independent School District will have a delay to the start of school due to inclement weather for Monday, Jan. 26.

Classes for all three campuses will begin at 10 a.m. Bus routes will begin at 9 a.m.

Texas State Technical College - Harlingen Campus

Texas State Technical College in Harlingen will open at 10 a.m. on Monday. Online classes will continue as schedule and employees will work remotely.

Other schools who have announced weather delays to their school day are listed below:

HIDALGO COUNTY

Donna ISD

The Donna Independent School District announced a delay to school start times for Monday, Jan. 26.

Elementary campuses will begin at 10 a.m. with bus pickups starting at 9:30 a.m. Secondary campuses will begin at 9:30 a.m. with bus pickups starting at 9 a.m.

All campus and central office staff will report at 9 a.m.

Edcouch-Elsa ISD

The Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District will have a delayed start to school times on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Elementary schools will begin at 9:45 a.m. and middle and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bus pick up times for elementary students will begin at 8:30 a.m. and pick up times for middle and high school students will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Staff will report at their regular times and campuses will be open for early drop offs.

Edinburg CISD

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District announced a delay to their school day for Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Elementary schools will begin at 10 a.m., middle schools will begin at 10:30 a.m. and high schools will being at 11 a.m.

Bus routes will also have a delay. Elementary routes will begin at 9 a.m., middle school routes will begin at 9:30 a.m. and high school routes will begin at 10 a.m.

Hidalgo ISD

The Hidalgo Independent School District announced a delay to their school start times due to inclement weather.

Schools will start later on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Elementary schools will begin at 9 a.m. and secondary schools will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Bus routes will operate one hour later than the regular scheduled pick-up time.

Breakfast for students will be provided. All extracurricular practices and events throughout the district remain scheduled unless informed otherwise by the program coach or sponsor.

La Feria ISD

The La Feria Independent School District will have a delayed start on Monday, Jan. 26.

Classes will begin at 10 a.m. and staff will report at their regular scheduled time to be able to recieve students beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Bus routes will also run two hours late.

La Joya ISD

The La Joya Independent School District announced they will have a 1-hour delay to their school start times on Monday, Jan. 26.

Elementary ACE schools will begin at 8:30 a.m., elementary schools will begin at 8:35 a.m., middle schools will begin at 9:15 a.m., high schools will begin at 9:35 a.m. and early college schools will begin at 9:35 a.m.

Students may dress comfortably and warmly, uniforms will not be required, and hot chocolate will be available in cafeterias Monday morning.

Bus routes will also operate on a one-hour delay.

Teachers and staff should report at their regular time, and morning athletic and fine arts practices are canceled.

McAllen ISD

The McAllen Independent School District said they have adjusted their school start times on Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to potential cold weather.

Delayed start times for elementary schools are 8:45 a.m., middle schools at 9 a.m. and high schools at 9:15 a.m. Schools will be open at their regular times in case parents need to drop off their children earlier.

Bus pickups will start one hour later from their regular bus stop.

All staff will report at their regular time and breakfast will be provided to students.

Mercedes ISD

The Mercedes Independent School District will have a delay to the start of school on Monday, Jan. 26, due to anticipated inclement weather.

Elementary schools will start at 9:30 a.m., middle school will start at 9:55 a.m., and high schools will start at 10:10 a.m.

Morning bus route pick up times will also be affected. Pickup times for elementary students will begin at 8:10 a.m., middle school students will be picked up beginning at 9:30 a.m. and high school pickup times will be at 9:30 a.m. 

All staff will report at their regular schedule times. To support families who need an earlier drop off, campus staff will be available to receive and supervise students during normal school arrival hours.

Mission CISD

Mission CISD will operate on a two-hour delay to the start of the school day on Tuesday, Jan. 27. 

Elementary schools will start at 9:30 a.m., junior high schools will start at 10 a.m., and high schools will start at 10:15 a.m.

Morning bus routes will pick up students two hours later than their regularly scheduled time. All staff will report to their designated campus or department at their regular start time.

Students will not be required to wear uniforms for the school day and are encouraged to dress warmly.

PSJA ISD

The PSJA Independent School District will be delaying the start of their school times on Monday, Jan. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 27

Elementary schools will begin at 10 a.m., middle schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bus route pick up times will also be affected. Pickup times for elementary students will begin at 9:30 a.m., middle school students will be picked up beginning at 9 a.m. and high school pickup times will be at 10 a.m.

Teachers and staff will report to their campuses at 9 a.m.

Sharyland ISD

Sharyland ISD announced they will be operating on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Jan. 27. 

Under the adjusted schedule, the school day starts at 10 a.m. for elementary students, and 10:15 a.m. for junior and high school students. 

Breakfast will be served from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. for all students. 

After school care will be operating with regular hours, and families are being urged to contact coaches for details on the status of extracurricular activities. 

Valley View ISD

Schools at Valley View Independent will have a delay to the start of their school times on Monday, Jan. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 27, due to the cold weather.

Elementary schools will begin at 10 a.m., Valley View Jr. High will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Valley View Early College and Valley View High School will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Bus pickup times will also be affected. Elementary students will be picked up at 9 a.m., Valley View Jr. High will be picked up at 9:30 a.m., and Valley View Early College and Valley View High School will be picked up at 9:45 a.m.

Uniforms for students will be optional, and they will be allowed to wear warm-ups, beanies and scarves.

Vanguard Academy

Vanguard Academy will have a delayed start time on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

School will begin at 9 a.m. across all campuses, and buses will run their normal routes. Students will be picked up at their regular stops between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. 

Campuses will open at 7:15 a.m. to begin welcoming students. Staff will be on their regular work schedule. 

Weslaco ISD

The Weslaco Independent School District has announced a delay to school start times for Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Delayed start times for elementary schools are 9:30 a.m., middle schools are 9:45 a.m. and high schools are 10 a.m. Schools will be open to accept students at their normal times.

Bus schedules will also be affected. Bus pickup for elementary students begins at 8:30 a.m., middle school and high school pickups will begin at 9 a.m.

STARR COUNTY

Rio Grande City Grulla ISD

The Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District will have a 2-hour delayed start on Tuesday, Jan. 27, due to inclement weather.

Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m., middle schools will begin at 10 a.m. and high schools will begin at 10:30 a.m.

All bus routes will also operate on a 2-hour delay.

Campus staff will report at 9 a.m. and campus and central office administrators will report at regular time. Parents who need to drop off their children at the regular time may do so.

Students will be allowed to dress out of uniform on Monday and Tuesday and are encouraged to dress warmly.

Roma ISD

Schools at Roma Independent School District will have a 2-hour delayed start on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m., middle schools will begin at 9:55 a.m. and Roma High School, the I&G Center, the Gladiator LIFE Center and the RHS Road to Recover Center will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Morning bus routes will have a 2-hour delay as well.

San Isidro ISD

The San Isidro Independent School District will have a delay to school start times for Monday, Jan. 26.

Classes will begin at 9:30 a.m. and bus routes will also have a 2-hour delay. Administration and staff will be at campus for regular student drop-off.

WILLACY COUNTY

Lasara ISD

Schools at Lasara Independent School District will have a delay in start times on Monday, Jan. 26 due to inclement weather.

Students will report to campus at 10 a.m. and bus routes will begin at 9 a.m.

Lyford CISD

The Lyford Consolidated Independent School District has announced a school start delay for Monday, Jan. 26.

Campuses and daycares will open at 9 a.m. for student drop offs and bus routes will be delayed by two hours.

Breakfast will be served at 9:45 a.m. and classes will begin at 10 a.m.

Raymondville ISD

Students at Raymondville Independent School District will have a 2-hour delay to their school start times and bus routes on Monday, Jan. 26.

Instruction will begin at 10 a.m.

San Perlita ISD

San Perlita Independent School District announced all school operations will be cancelled on Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to inclement weather.

Start time for all students will be 10:30 a.m. and bus routes will begin at 10 a.m.
