UTRGV women’s basketball added some significant talent to this year’s roster. From Houston Christian transfer Kamryn McLaurin to true freshman Jessica Borders, there are a lot of players for Vaqueros fans to be excited about heading into this fall.

Another new addition for the team is 6’3” freshman forward Lina Fimbo. The 21-year-old is entering her first year of college basketball after playing overseas in her home country of France. With former Vaqueros star post player Charlotte O’Keefe having finished her collegiate career following last season, Fimbo will be among the players the Vaqueros will look to in order to fill the void left on the interior.

“I feel good,” Fimbo said of how she’s feeling as she adjusts to the new environment. “It’s a new challenge for me and I’m excited to start to play with this team.”

Fimbo’s early conversations with Coach Lord also helped her feel like UTRGV was the right spot to continue her basketball career.

“When I spoke with Coach Lord, I was very comfortable with him,” she said. “He’s a very sweet person and when he spoke about all this stuff, I was very happy to join them.”

As far as adjusting to playing basketball in the United States, Fimbo said the biggest challenges are mostly off the court.

“The language and I miss my family, my home,” Fimbo said of the challenges so far. “It’s not the same basketball, but I just have to improve myself.”

The Vaqueros start the season on November 2nd against Arlington Baptist as part of a double header with the men’s basketball team.
