The UTRGV football team is coming off a heartbreaking 23-21 loss against #18 Lamar this past weekend.

The team is looking to regroup at practice and focusing on getting the offense back on track after their struggles on the road in Beaumont.

"Hats off to Lamar, they're a great defense," UTRGV redshirt senior quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger said after Tuesday's practice. "I just think personally I have to do a lot better, didn't play to the standard at all. I have to be better for the team, I have to put more hours together, more hours to watch film, and it's all about the details out here just got to give more effort and stuff like that."

After averaging nearly 400 yards of offense per game through the first two weeks of conference play, the Vaqueros finished with less than 200 yards as an offensive unit in last Saturday's game.

"The mistakes that were made across the board from each position," UTRGV head coach Travis Bush said. "Not very characteristic of what we've done. Really just looking at everything from the game plan to how we practice to teaching but really it boils down to we have to execute better, just be ready to play and we have to start faster."

The Vaqueros take on the reigning Southland Conference champion Incarnate Word Cardinals this Saturday in Edinburg.

"They've been the standard in this conference," Coach Bush said. "We look at them we do a lot of the same stuff offensively, there are things in our program that we got from them. Credit to Coach Killough, they've been kind of mentors to us the past couple of years here so excited to get him down here and get on the field with him. Great program, don't let the record fool you."

Kickoff at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
