UTRGV football's Travis Bush holds final press conference of the season
UTRGV head football coach Travis Bush held his final press conference of the season in Edinburg. He talked about what's next for the Vaqueros in their off season and what fans can expect over the next few months.
"The season flew by, we’ve been so into this for so many years now and just looking ahead of this and you blink and it’s over but such an amazing year," said Bush.
Now that the season is officially over, the program shifts its focus to the recruiting cycle and transfer portal.
“The dynamics of college football over the next few weeks will be really intriguing, like what happens to our roster, what we can do, what we have available here mid-term and then looking ahead for the guys that are in next year’s class... A lot of that depends on what that portal looks like and what are needs are," said Bush.
It was announced this week that coach Bush is up for the Eddie Robinson award honoring the best coach at the FCS level. When asked about that honor, he deferred the credit to his team.
“Just a great credit to our team and everything we know it’s a credit to what they’ve done on the field. Nothing I’ve done individually but again just to be proud moment for our university and our team."
The next time most fans will have a chance to see the Vaqueros in action will be at next year's spring game, which is currently still in the works to be played in Brownsville for the second consecutive year.
"We got that schedule lined out. We’re looking to have it again in Brownsville. We’re rolling on the schedule and just starting from scratch.”
The Vaqueros have already confirmed plans to play UTSA next fall as part of their non-conference schedule.
