Sit down interview with Los Fresnos Star Quarterback Robert Pineda
Robert Pineda first knew he wanted to be the Los Fresnos Falcons starting quarterback when he was in fifth grade.
“I started working every single day hoping that one day I would get a shot at it. freshman year comes around. I got my opportunity and I just ran with it and it was a blessing,” says Los Fresnos Quarterback Robert Pineda.
“To me in my opinion, the toughest position in sports is quarterback. You have to have what is called the it factor and you have to be able to take responsibility and through our conversations I was starting to learn that this young man can handle that.” Said Los Fresnos Head Coach David Cantu.
Pineda spent all four years of high school as the Falcons starter. He’s turned into a star on the field. Earlier this season Pineda reached a milestone many high school quarterbacks dream of. He surpassed the 100 career touchdown mark in a non-district win over Nikki Rowe and is now up to 123 career touchdowns and counting. But for Pineda it’s not about the numbers, It's about his team.
“Breaking those records I think it just goes to show the support that I have around me, the support my coaches have given me. Coach Cantu for believing in me when I was a freshman and is the most selfless guy you could ever imagine. He just wants the best for people no matter who it is and he does what's right for the team no matter what.”
Pineda and the Falcons are still writing the final chapter. No matter how the story ends, it’s clear Pineda will be remembered.
Not only for the football player he was on the field but for the person he was off it.
