McAllen, TX (KRGV) — The McAllen Heritage Center is expanding downtown.

Crews are working on the building on Main Street as the current space is too small, according to the museum's director.

“As you see here, the floor is pretty well used up; the gallery areas would allow us to have more displays and do partnerships with other institutions,” McAllen Heritage Center Executive Director Elva Cerda said.

Donors are funding the project.

The idea to expand the center started nearly seven years ago.
