MCALLEN – Free services for veterans are going unclaimed because there isn’t a sign at the new veterans office in McAllen.

McAllen veteran Homero Gomez says his fellow service members have a hard time finding the Hidalgo County’s Veterans Office.

He called 5 On Your Side because he doesn’t want veterans to continue passing up on health care and disability benefits.

“One of the obstacles we knew we were going to have was our location,” says Hidalgo County Veterans Services Administrator Emilio De Los Santos.

Gomez has voiced his concerns to the city of McAllen, the Texas Department of Transportation and the Veterans Service Office. He is waiting for an answer.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro has the details.
