LIST: Warming shelters opening across the Valley

Several shelters and warming centers are opening across the Rio Grande Valley due to an arctic blast arriving next week that's expected to drop temperatures.

Below is a list of the facilities. This list will be updated as more warming centers and shelters are announced.

CAMERON COUNTY

Bayview 

Bayview City Hall
- Located at 104 S. San Roman St.
- Open Monday, Jan. 15 through Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 11p.m. 

Brownsville 

Downtown Recreation Center
- 1338 E. 8th St.

Wednesday open until 9PM 

Brownsville Sports Park Dome

West Iglesia Bautista
- 925 W. St. Charles

The City of Brownsville is also partnered with a local downtown church to assist those who have a need for a warm place to stay during the cold weather spell. The West Iglesia Bautista will open its doors to those in need on Monday at 6:00PM.

Ozanam Center
- Located at 656 N. Minnesota Ave.
- Will be open 24/7 starting on Monday, Jan. 15.
-Donations of blankets and warm clothing can be dropped off at 656 N. Minnesota Ave. 

Good Neighbor Settlement Home
- Located at 1254 E. Tyler St.
- Opens Monday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.

Harlingen 

Loaves and Fishes
-Located at 514 South E. St.
- Opens on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. and will remain open through Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Harlingen Community Center
- Located at 201 E. Madison Ave.
- Opens Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. 

Port Isabel 

Port Isabel Police Department
- Located at 110 W. Hickman Ave.
- Will operate 24/7 starting on Monday, Jan. 15.

HIDALGO COUNTY

Edinburg 

Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library
- Warming center located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd.
- Warming center will open Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. and close on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 a.m. It will open again on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. and close on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 a.m.
- No pets allowed

McAllen 

The Salvation Army in McAllen
- Located at 1600 n. 23rd St.
- Shelter restrictions will be eased on Monday, Jan. 15. Proof of homelessness won't be required. 
- Shelter opens at 5 p.m. on Monday and will close on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
- Families are welcomed to stay throughout the night and day.
- Everyone is asked to bring your own pillows, blankets, medications, etc.

Las Palmas Community Center
- Located at 1921 N. 25th St.
- The shelter will be open Monday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 17.
- Residents are asked to bring essential items such as non-perishable food, water, prescription medication, toiletry items, pillows and sleeping bags. A limited number of cots will be available.
- No pets allowed except for properly documented service animals.
- Anyone who needs transportation to the shelter can take any Metro McAllen bus and will be given a free ride to Las Palmas Community Center only.

Mission

Mission Parks & Recreation building
- Located at 721 N. Bryan rd.
- Warming center, opens Monday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and closes on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 a.m.
- Must bring an ID and pets are not allowed.
- Please bring water, snacks, pillows, blankets, medications and toiletry items
- Families will be allowed to stay the night, if needed

Hidalgo County Precinct 3 meeting hall

- Located at 724 Breyfogle Road
- Doors open Monday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. and close Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 a.m. They will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. and close Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 a.m.
- Individuals are asked to bring a pillow, blanket, medication, non-perishable foods and snacks
- No pets except for service animals

Peñitas Public Library

- Open 24 hours through Wednesday morning
- Please bring your own water, snacks, pillows, blankets, medications and toiletry items 

Sullivan City

Sullivan City Fire Department
- 500 S Cenizo Dr.
- Will open on Monday, Jan. 15 and Tuesday, Jan. 16.
- Call ahead at 956-485-9208. 

Weslaco 

First Baptist Church
- Located at 600 S. Kansas Ave.
- Warming shelter will open on Monday, Jan. 15 and Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- Valid picture ID is required.

Mercedes

Mercedes Safe Room Community Recreation Center
- Located at 1202 N. Vermont Ave
- Shelter opens Monday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and closes Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 12 p.m.

Hidalgo

Hidalgo Youth Center
- Located at 902 S. 2nd Street
- Opens Monday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. and closes on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 12 p.m.

Progreso 

Dorothy Thompson Middle School
- Located at 108 FM 1015
- The shelter will open on Monday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and close on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 a.m.
- The shelter will reopen on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and close on Wednesday at 7 a.m.
- The shelter will reopen once again on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to Thursday at 7 a.m.
- Everyone must vacate the premises at 7 a.m.
- Individuals are encouraged to bring a pillow, blanket, non-perishable food and snacks and any necessary medication.
- No pets will be allowed.

Donna

Boys and Girls Club
- Located at 307 Miller Ave
- The shelter will be open on Monday, Jan. 15 8 p.m. to 11 a.m. and on Wednesday, Jan. 17 8 p.m. to 11 a.m.
- No reservations needed
- No pets
- Must be 18 years, unless accompanied by an adult
- Individuals are asked to bring their own blanket, pillows, toiletries and medications.
- Bring your own food and snacks

STARR COUNTY 

Escobares

Escobares Community Center
- Located at 4829 Old Highway 83 behind city hall
- Walk-ins allowed
- Open Monday, Jan. 15 through Thursday, Jan. 18.
- Will remain open as needed 

Rio Grande City

Casa de Esperanza
-Located at 804 Ringgold St.
- Open all day starting on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and on Wednesday, Jan. 17
- Space is limited. Call ahead at 956-263-0562

Wings on Fire Ministries
- Located at 1207 N. Avasolo
- The shelter will open on Monday at 7 p.m. and close on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
- Rides are offered to nearby residents. Call 956-352-5156.

First Baptist Church
- Located at 1196 W. Main Street
- The shelter will open Monday through Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and reopen Tuesday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Roma

Roma Fire Department
- Located at 901 E Grant St.
- Warming shelter open Monday, Jan. 15 through Wednesday, Jan. 17
- Please bring your medications, blankets and hygiene items

229th Judicial District Attorney's Office
Crime Victims Center
- Located at 1334 4th Street
- Call or text to reserve a spot prior to arriving at shelter: 956-476-8109 or 956-476-8108
- The shelter will be open Monday, Jan. 15 and Tuesday, Jan 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- Please bring your own snacks, medication and toiletry items
- If possible, bring blankets and pillows. A limited supply will be available at the site

WILLACY COUNTY 

Raymondville 

Raymondville Community Center
-Located at 523 W N. 7th St.
- Doors will open Monday., Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. through Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 a.m.
- Bring your own food, blankets and other supplies.
- Report to the Raymondville Police Department prior to using the shelter. 

Willacy County Sheriff's Office 

Will be open to anyone seeking a warm place to stay.
Will provide hot coffee.
