Federal agents were spotted Thursday afternoon in a McAllen neighborhood.

An ICE spokesperson confirmed to Channel 5 News the activity in linked to a criminal investigation.

McAllen police officers and agents with Homeland Security Investigations were spotted at the intersection of South 24th Street and Austin Avenue at around 4 p.m.

The scene cleared shortly before 6 p.m.

Channel 5 News reached out to ICE for comment, and a spokesperson issued the following statement in full:

"Homeland Security Investigations is conducting today’s enforcement operation in close partnership with our federal, state and local partners.  As the criminal investigation remains active and ongoing, no additional information is available for release at this time."
