Fire crews across the Rio Grande Valley teaming up for fire safety expo in Edinburg
Fire agencies from across the Rio Grande Valley are encouraging the public to come out to their first ever fire safety expo.
The event is happening on Monday, Jan. 12 at the Bert Ogden Arena from 4:20 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The expo is being hosted by multiple fire marshals across the Valley who will explain the best escape routes and safety tips. Live demonstrations will also be held.
Fire officials said they want everyone to learn what to do in an emergency situation.
“We want them to learn how to use a fire extinguisher, we want them to learn how to build a fire safety plan,” McAllen Fire Department Lt. Erick Alaniz said. “We want to show a way to exit a home safely, whether it'd be through a door crawling low and exiting their front door, or actually getting out of a window.”
The event is free.
