Double the pride: UTRGV holding homecoming activities in Brownsville and Edinburg campuses
Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — UTRGV is making homecoming bigger this year by holding events on both its Edinburg and Brownsville campuses, including the university’s first homecoming parades at each location.
The university says it expanded the celebration to the Brownsville campus for the first time so more students can feel part of the tradition.
UTRGV is hosting small homecoming events throughout the week, all leading up to Saturday’s home game. Activities include games, music, food, giveaways and a chance for students to connect with campus organizations.
“We want to make sure that all of our students feel super included in everything that we're doing to get into the experience and make sure they feel the Vaquero pride," UTRGV Student Activities Program Coordinator Raul Leal said.
Leal said the university will also hold the Burning of the Letters event this year.
“It really is their college experience; coming out to the events is really what they are going to remember when they graduate," Leal said. "So getting all the fun, all the free stuff — it's what they're going to remember after they graduate."
The homecoming parade will be on Thursday at the Brownsville campus and on Friday at the Edinburg campus.
