Channel 5 News caught up with the two candidates on the March ballot for the Hidalgo County Precinct 3 commissioner’s seat.

As the city manager for Peñitas, Beto Garza has worked for Hidalgo County for over 25 years.

If elected, Garza says he wants to focus on infrastructure, and fix roads in precinct three.

“I plan to continue paving north of [State Highway] 107,” Garza said. “There are a lot of the rural areas that part of the roads were started by commissioner Flores, and the last four years they haven't really done any work in that area."

Hidalgo County Precinct 3 covers Mission to Sullivan City, and heads north toward the Brooks County line. It’s currently the only district without an emergency service district.
