Alamo, TX (KRGV) — An Alamo man will spend 50 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three children, according to the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.

Florentino Garcia Lerma, 67, was convicted of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and six counts of indecency with a child by contact, the news release states.

All three children were under the age of 14.

“The evidence presented at trial established that Lerma engaged in repeated acts of abuse against the children, causing lasting harm to the victims,” according to the release.

According to the news release, Lerma was arrested after the Alamo Police Department was notified of an alleged sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl in November 2023.

“During the investigation, authorities received a second allegation of sexual assault involving another female who was a minor at the time of the abuse. Further investigation revealed similarities and patterns in the allegations involving the victims,” the news release stated.

Jurors heard testimony of the sexual abuse that involved three children during the trial.

“Thanks to the diligent work of the Alamo Police Department and the commitment of the jury, a dangerous individual has been held accountable for these horrific acts,” Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios said in a statement. “Our most sacred duty is protecting our children. This verdict ensures Lerma can never harm another child again.”
