The UTRGV football team took down McNeese on Saturday night 27-10.

Aidan Jakobsohn stepped up for the Vaqueros, coming in for Garret Rangel who had to exit the game early in the first half.

Jakobsohn went on to lead back-to-back touchdown drives once he came into the game, and ultimately finished with two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown on the evening.

The Vaqueros run game was also stellar, rushing for a staggering 315 yards on the ground and averaging 7.7 yards per carry.

"We needed to run the football and we needed to establish that and the guys did a good job of that in the second half," UTRGV head coach Travis Bush said.

On defense, the Vaqueros locked up McNeese save for one long touchdown to start the fourth quarter. Even with that score, the Vaqueros held McNeese to a season-low 10 points on the scoreboard and came away with three interceptions.

The win marks the Vaqueros first conference win of the season for UTRGV after falling in the conference opener to Nicholls.

"McNeese is a really good football team that just went toe-to-toe with two top 10 teams in the country," Coach Bush said. "So we knew it was gonna be hard, but really just challenged our guys. We talked all week, we know who we are, we saw how we play when the game is on the line and the challenge was when we walked out of that tunnel from the get go the game was on the line."

UTRGV also moves to 9-0 all-time at their home stadium, still having next lost a home game to this point in program history.

The Vaqueros will have an open week following this victory and then will face East Texas A&M on October 3rd in Commerce.
