The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a head-on crash in Hidalgo County that killed two people and left two others in critical condition.

The crash happened at 9:26 p.m. on Aug. 14 on Texan Road south of Freedom Avenue, north of Palmview.

According to DPS, a blue Ford Fusion was heading southbound on Texan Road when a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound crossed into the wrong lane and hit it head-on.

Jonathan Tellez-Sosa, 25, of Peñitas, the driver of the Ford, died at the scene. Brianna Yatziri Saucedo, 19, of Mission, a passenger in the Chevrolet, also died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet and the passenger of the Ford were both taken to McAllen Medical Center. Both remain in critical condition.

DPS troopers continue to investigate the crash.
