With cold weather currently in the Rio Grande Valley, many of us are reaching for our coats to stay warm; but some community members may need a helping hand.
On Monday, KRGV kicked off the 43rd annual Tim’s Coats campaign. Tim’s Coats is collecting monetary donations through Wednesday, Dec. 10 to purchase new coats for Valley families in need.
Each donation means helping our neighbors stay warm, one coat at a time.
Estephanie Rodriguez is a mother of seven children. She said that thanks to last year’s donations, her children received new coats that helped them stay warm.
“It makes a difference, and impacts everybody,” Rodriguez said. “It was a relief to have the coats, just because I couldn't afford them at the time."
She said she was happy when her kids received their new coats.
“It was great because I knew they were not going to suffer anything from the [winter weather],” Rodriguez said.
The 2024 Tim’s Coats campaign raised $35,000, which helped purchase over 2,000 new coats.
Rodriguez is encouraging others to donate, and is grateful to those who have already contributed.
“Thank you for the donations that they make because those coats make a difference,” Rodriguez said.
As of Tuesday evening, Tim’s Coats has raised $13,535.
All donations will be collected by KRGVCares, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Therefore, your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
