Instant replay is taking over many levers of sports, but could high school be next?

The UIL added the instant replay feature to the high school football state championships back in 2018.

It’s a feature that a lot of schools would like to see during the regular season and playoffs, but the UIL hasn’t approved it for that use.

The topic resurfaced in a UIL legislative council meeting earlier this year, but no action on the proposal was taken.

“We’ll go another year and probably really ramp this discussion up, Texas High School Coaches Association Executive Director Joe Martin said. “Our coaches are really wanting to do this, but it’s not just levels of playoffs they want to do in every game.”

Coaches from Rio Grande Valley high school teams have mixed opinions on the potential addition of instant replay.

The main concern is, would the districts be able to afford it and implement in at each stadium?
