HOV: New mom discusses lifestyle adjustments

First time mom Savannah Cedillo thought she was ready for being a mom- but there were still a lot of new things coming her way.

For starters - cravings.

And when she found out she had gestational diabetes - Cedillo had to change her diet and stay away from foods with high sugar and salt content.

"My body would swell and my feet would swell up," Cedillo recalled.

OB-GYN Dr. Flor Limas says many of her patients have to make adjustments to their lifestyles to make sure their baby stays healthy.

"A lot of changes will happen to your body I think that the most important part is to remember that you are basically growing and creating a human in your body,” Dr. Limas said. “

Cedillo said aside from her cravings - what she remembers most was the first time she felt her baby kick. She said it was an emotional experience filled with joy.

"With the whole pandemic going on my husband couldn't go into the doctor’s office with me, couldn't really do anything so every time I had an ultrasound it was like ‘oh look the pictures,’" Cedillo said.

“So finally it was something that he was there for."

Cedillo's son - Israel Alexander - made his debut into this world sooner than she thought.

Due to high blood pressure, doctors ordered a C-section.

Cedillo learned yet another lesson as a first-time mom: That not everything goes according to plan.
