KRGV Channel 5 News (ABC) located in the warm and beautiful Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. (Brownsville - McAllen, Texas, DMA #80) is looking for a dynamic and energetic Weekend Sports Anchor MMJ who will work alongside our Sports Director to lead our dynamic and top rated award winning five person sports team across our television and digital platforms.
We are looking for someone with a passion for sports, who can create unique stories for all platforms through memorable writing, video and editing. You will work with the Sports Director, News Director and Assistant News Director to plan coverage for high school sports playoffs (football, basketball, soccer, baseball and softball), NFL training camps, the RGV Vipers (G-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets), and our Division I college teams at UTRGV. You will be a key part to our extensive coverage of the UTRGV football program entering its second year. KRGV already is a huge partner with the university and expects that to increase for next year.
We are looking for a sports anchor that is self-motivated, creative, and has a strong passion for their work and uncovering unique sports stories. The best candidate must be able to compliment a veteran news team and fully commit to learning how to cover the sports in our region. You will also cover games and practices, write for the web, and keep scores updated. A strong talent for live reports and sportscasts is a must. You will be producing your own sportscasts on the weekends and as needed filling on the weekdays.
Your reel should demonstrate ability to: anchor, report, write, shoot, edit, produce, and excel at live shots.

Job Description
- Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit for TV, website, social media and other platforms
- Develop original local sports content through social listening and independent sources
- Produce sports content that stands out from the norm including commentary and opinions
- Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner for our market
- Ability to handle live, breaking sports news situations and event coverage
- Use the latest editing and video photography tools to tell great stories (knowledge of Edius helpful)
- Develop sources and build relationships with players and coaches that allow you to break stories and create enterprise content
- Have a strong, active social media platforms
- Perform other tasks as required by News Director
Job Requirements:
- BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
- 1-2 years of experience in a commercial TV station or related field preferred
- Experience in video photojournalism, editing, and social media platforms
- A video demo reel with examples of sports reporting and anchoring
- Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
