Warming centers and shelters announced in the Rio Grande Valley
To prepare for a strong cold front that’s approaching the area, warming centers and shelters will be open.
The following is a list of warming centers and shelters that will be open this weekend.
This article will be regularly updated as we learn of more shelters and warming centers.
CAMERON COUNTY
Brownsville
The Ozanam Center will serve as a warming shelter. It is located at 656 N. Minnesota Avenue.
Harlingen
The non-profit organization announced their shelter will open as a temporary emergency shelter. The shelter is located at 514 S E St. in Harlingen. The shelter is being prepared, but those with any questions or in need of shelter can call the organization at 956-423-1014.
La Feria
The city of La Feria has opened up a warming shelter at the La Feria Recreation Center, located at 901 Pancho Maples Drive.
The shelter will be open from Sunday, Jan. 25, to Wednesday, Jan. 28, until 12 p.m.
Sleeping cots will be provided for the community. Residents are asked to bring blankets, pillows, water, food and medications. No pets allowed.
Port Isabel
The city of Port Isabel has opened up a warming center at the Port Isabel Municipal Court, located at 110 W. Hickman Street.
The center will remain open until further notice.
HIDALGO COUNTY
Donna
The city of Donna has opened up a warming shelter at the Parks and Rec Building, located at 307 Miller Avenue.
The shelter operate from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m.; doors close at 9 p.m.
Edcouch-Elsa
The Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District will be opening up their wrestling room as a warming shelter for the inclement weather.
The shelter will be open on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 8 p.m. through Monday, Jan. 26 at 9:30 a.m. The wrestling room is located at the Edcouch-Elsa High School North, 601 N. Yellow Jacket Drive.
All individuals seeking shelter are encouraged to bring their own blankets, pillow, medications and personal toiletries. No pets allowed.
Edinburg
The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library, located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd., will serve as a warming center. The center will open on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, from 5 p.m. through 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.
The center will reopen on Monday, Jan. 26 , 2026, at 5 p.m. and close on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 9 a.m.
Patrons are encouraged to bring essential items, including a pillow and blanket, non-perishable food and snacks, and any necessary overnight medication. No pets will be allowed.
The library will remain open during regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hidalgo
The city of Hidalgo has opened up a warming shelter at the Hidalgo Youth Center.
The center is located at 122 S. 2nd Street and will be open through Monday, Jan. 26. Residents are asked to bring their own blankets, pillows, medications and snacks.

Mercedes
The city of Mercedes will have a warming shelter open at the Mercedes Safe Dome, located at 1202 N. Vermont Avenue.
The shelter will be open on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. It will remain open overnight if it is needed and pets are welcome.

Weslaco
The First Baptist Church of Weslaco, located at 600 S. Kansas Ave., will serve as a warming shelter for residents.
Shelter intake will take place on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026 through Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
WILLACY COUNTY
Raymondville
The city of Raymondville will be opening up a warming center at the Raymondville Community Center, located at 523 West Hidalgo Avenue.
The center will be open on Sunday, Jan. 25 and stay open until Tuesday, Jan. 27. Residents seeking shelter are asked to bring medications, food and pillows and blankets.
For safety and accountability, residents are asked to report to the Raymondville Police Department prior to entering the shelter.

Willacy County Sheriff's Office
The Willacy County Sheriff's Office will be available as a warming station for the community. The sheriff's office is located at 1371 Industrial Drive in Raymondville.
