MCALLEN – A new McAllen resident says he was warned for not following city rules.

When he started a family, so did a new tradition – making homemade Easter baskets.

It’s been going strong for eight years and a change in address wasn’t going to stop him or so he thought.

Eric Castillo’s week of selling baskets got him some positive recognition with his neighbors.

“They have been asking us, you know ‘where are your baskets, why are they not up?’ And we have to tell them the city of McAllen shut us down,” said Castillo.

Xochitl Mora, the McAllen public information officer, explained it’s not against city rules if you have a permit.

She encourages the types of sales Castillo is conducting, but as long as they are done properly.
