EDINBURG – A local family says they received a notice of eviction and worry their rights were violated.

Margarita Gonzalez says she has lived in her Edinburg apartment for three months.

Gonzalez says she signed a one-year lease agreement, but was notified she would need to move out in 30 days.

“We don't know why, they didn't give us a reason why or anything. Our rent is always paid on time,” she says.

The apartment property managers claim neighbors were complaining about the Gonzalez family disturbing the peace.

Texas legal aid attorney Nelson Mock says private property owners are not required to provide a written justification to tenants within the notice of termination.

Residents being evicted who live under government housing programs have a separate process depending on the program.
