Brownsville Man With Paraplegia Concerned for Safety of Providers Due to Crime
BROWNSVILLE - A Brownsville man with paraplegia is trying to keep his providers protected from crime in his neighborhood.
Ismael Cavazos counts on his providers for everything and says he just wants to be able to do his part to make sure he’s looking out for the people looking out for him.
He was given 72 hours to live after he broke his neck horsing around with a friend nearly 40 years ago.
"When I hit the floor all his weight fell on top of me and my neck popped and I’m paralyzed from the neck down," says Cavazos.
He says the help of his many providers who are with him 24-7 is the only way he survives.
However, Cavazos tells us crime has been a growing problem in his Brownsville neighborhood.
"It gets really dark outside and they break into the cars,” he says.
He doesn’t want his home to be an easy target, which is why he had security cameras installed and a security light pointed at his driveway to deter as much theft as possible.
However, Cavazos says the security light hasn’t been working all month.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to Magic Valley Electric Co-Op to see what the problem with the light is.
They tell us crews have gone three times this already; if it’s not working by tonight they plan on replacing the transformer.
MVEC says no matter what the issue is Cavazos is off the hook for this month’s bill.
