The Salvation Army shelter in McAllen remains open

The Salvation Army of McAllen continues lending a hand to those in need as the area experiences a cold front that’s dipping temperatures to near freezing levels.
The organization’s overnight shelter is providing warm meals, clothes, and blankets to help people stay warm.

Cold front bringing more demand for pan dulce at Harlingen bakery

The shelves are typically overflowing with baked goods, but the recent cold front is creating a demand for more pan dulce.
Workers said they are trying to do their best to keep up with orders.

Weslaco church to serve as warming shelter

The First Baptist Church of Weslaco, located at 600 S. Kansas Ave., will serve as a warming shelter for residents.
Shelter intake will take place on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026 through Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The shelter will be open through Monday.
