Rudy Mireles

Rudy Mireles joined the KRGV Channel 5 News Team in March 2020 as a news reporter, eventually working his way to weekend anchor before being promoted to weekday evening anchor in May 2022. In his time here, he’s covered several significant events such as the lifting of Title 42, anchoring and reporting feet from migrants crossing the Rio Grande near Camp Monument in Brownsville, TX. His coverage earned him recognition as Best News Anchor at the 2023 Lone Star Emmy Awards.

In addition to immigration, Rudy’s reporting extends to the commercial space industry, reporting on SpaceX’s Starship manufacturing and test launch site at Boca Chica, TX. In addition to reporting live from every launch ever attempted from Starbase, Rudy delves into the economic, environmental, and legal implications of a commercial rocket build and launch facility in a region’s backyard.

A self-proclaimed amateur meteorologist at heart, Rudy often takes to the field to inform viewers of the severe weather coming their way. In addition to his 72-hour-long coverage from Port Mansfield, TX before, during, and after Hurricane Hanna made landfall a few miles north of the village, his coverage of Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 garnered him the title of Best TV Reporter at the 2022 Texas Association of Broadcasters Broadcast News Awards. In addition to putting a spotlight on the needs of the Laguna Heights, TX community following the deadly May 2023 tornado, Rudy’s direct efforts helped raise more than $30,000 for victims.

Before coming to KRGV, Rudy was the morning news anchor for iHeartRadio Toledo. Prior to that, he served for 10 years as a Munitions Systems Craftsman in the United States Air Force.
