DONNA – Authorities say high water demands and strong currents delayed the recovery of the body of man who drowned earlier this week.

Officials tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS the body of the 43-year-old floated five to six miles in the canal before being recovered.

First responders had to wait nearly a day to recover the body because of strong currents.

The Donna Irrigation District is now saying they had increased the flow of water to meet demands of consumers.

The drowning remains under investigation.
