Driver Charged with DWI after Crashing, Destroying Valley Monument in Hidalgo
HIDALGO – A driver is now facing charges and recovering in the hospital after a crash at a well-known Rio Grande Valley monument.
It happened near the Hidalgo port-of-entry, off International Boulevard.
At around 8 p.m. Sunday, a Ford F-150 swerved off the road destroying the monument.
According to Hidalgo police, the driver was the only person in the vehicle.
Authorities say he's facing charges of driving while intoxicated; he's also in the hospital suffering from non life-threatening injuries.
Police say he'll be arraigned on the DWI charge pending his release.
