WESLACO – One of the Rio Grande Valley’s Congressional Representatives is speaking out about the shutdown and the impact on border security.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with Congressman Henry Cuellar over the phone.

Cuellar explains he is in Washington, where Congress continues to pitch proposals to end the shutdown.

“They missed the first check. If they don't get the second check, it's going to affect them. We have given the president so many ways to keep the government open,” says Cuellar.

He says they offer to increase border security and hire more agents and officers.
